How to Clean Shower Doors

Glass showers are very trendy, elegant and aesthetically pleasing. But with the classy look, comes grimmy, cloudy glass shower doors that can be hard to clean. Here is why your shower doors are looking dull and how to effectively clean them:

Hard Water Stains

Hard water stains are difficult to avoid, and occur due to the minerals in the water. Once the water is dried, what is left is the hardened minerals. The best way to clean this buildup is a vinegar and water solution. Use equal parts of both ingredients and spray it directly on the stain. Leave for a few minutes, then get a damp sponge and scrub away the buildup. If the stains are more intense, you can leave the solution on longer or repeat the process until dissolved.

Soap Scum

Soap scum is a mixture of soap, shampoo and body oils that gets left behind in the shower. Usually it will dry crusty or filmy. Cleaning soap scum is fairly simple and doesn’t require lots of scrubbing. A hack for cleaning this type of scum is to use a laundry sheet, with a dab of water to wipe away the scum. If you do not have laundry sheets, a microfiber towel will do.

Mildew

If it’s been awhile since you cleaned your shower doors, then you might notice some mildew growing. This is a type of mold and occurs in moist places, like the shower. To get rid of mildew, create a solution of equal parts of hot water, vinegar and dish soap. Spray this solution on the mildew and leave for at least 15 minutes. Then you can either use a sponge or an old toothbrush to scrub away the mildew. Once the area is clean, you will want to rinse and dry the area.
